Baby it's cold outside!

With the cold weather definitely setting in it is time to snuggle up in from of the telly with a nice cuppa and wrap up in some of our favourite throws and cushions!

Cable knit is a big trend at the moment for both throws and cushions. As ever mixing and matching textures looks great when it comes to interiors so try mixing a knitted throw with a furry cushion to add a cosy feel to the room.

    Up Cycling

There are so many amazing furniture retailers out there at the moment offering original designs but they normally come with a hefty price tag.

Upcycling is a growing trend in the UK with many people grabbing the paint brush to add a new lease of life to their current pieces of furniture.

Here at Redbrick we have he wonderful Rhubarb and Ginger who will breath a new lease of life into anything you have lying about your house! Check out some of their amazing creations below.

    Rhubarb and Ginger, upcycling

Here are some of our top tips for upcycling:
    • Pick you colour(s) - if you are going to sand some of the edges pick a complimentary colour.
    • Make sure you prepare the piece you are upcycling - if you are using chalk paint you don't need to prime and sand. We love Annie Sloan!
    • Add wax to painted items once dry. This will seal and protect the paint, a clear wax with a lint free cloth will do the trick.
    • Why not add a design with a stencil and really make it your own?
    • Adding fabric or paper to a chest of drawers can make a truly unique piece.
    • Don’t always upholster a chair in matching fabric – why not change it up with a different pattern on the back?
    • If you are not feeling up to much hard work but want to revamp - why not just change the handles?

    Cushions....The lowdown!

Cushions are a favourite of mine and you can spruce up any sofa, chair or bed with them. They also allow you to change the whole feel of a room!

Here are my top tips for getting an eye catching cushion display....

    1. Always start from the outside
    2. Layer smaller sizes in front
    3. Try and match sizes in each set
    4. Play around with different textures
    5. Odd numbers always look easier on the eye
    6. Add an odd shape in the middle

Below is a perfect example of the above all styled by Dunelm for this New Hamptons style set. As you can see non of the cushions are the same design but by adding texture and keeping set sizes the same they have got the look brilliantly!

    I LOVE wreaths...

So I thought I would share some of my favourites for 2014!

Wreaths have been used as a decorative sign of Christmas for hundreds and hundreds of years. They can dress any part of your home, inside or out and are a symbol of growth and everlasting life. It is common to find a number of wreaths on doors, over the mantle, or hung in windows.

I am loving the pom pom design from Anthrapolgie but a little pricey for a girl on a budget at £118. With time and a few balls of wool that can be easily achieved for a fraction of the price. I will show you if I ever make one (chances are slim though!).
